James Barry Clemence, age 84, of St. Simons Island, passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick. His family and friends would like to thank the hospice for the wonderful care they provided in the last months of his life.
Jim was born in Wilkinsburg, PA to parents James Eldean and Elizabeth Seath Clemence. After graduation, he joined the US Army and served our country honorably for 12 years. His service included three tours in Vietnam where he earned a silver medal. After leaving the service, Jim obtained an undergraduate degree from the University of Miami and Master’s from Baruch College in New York. Jim worked as a management consultant for Peat Marwick and Colgate Palmolive until retirement. After retirement he began an individual consulting practice, consulting with Chase Bank and NY Power Authority just to name a few. Socially, Jim was a member of the union League Club in NYC and enjoyed golfing, fishing and just being outdoors. In 2020, Jim and his wife, Gayllis, moved to the Golden Isles to have a better life in the south. Here, he continued to enjoy his hobbies and became a member of St. William Catholic Church.
Jim is survived by his wife of 34 years, Gayllis R. Ward; five children, James Clemence (Soany), Shannon Clemence, John D’Anunnzio (Shirley), Sara Clemence (Drew Sanocki) and Todd Clemence (Mariam Razaq); fourteen grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and a brother, Wayne Clemence.
The funeral mass will be held Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at 11:00 am at St. William Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Oglethorpe Memorial Gardens Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Church.
Serving as pallbearers are Paul Jamsky, Mark Friedman, Harley Morgan and Mark King.
