Joseph Hugh "Butch" Berry, Jr.

Joseph Hugh "Butch" Berry, Jr., 82, of Beaverdam, went Home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 16, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Rena Berry; daughter, Betsy O'Berry; grandson, Dustin Smith; and sister-in-law, Jenny Southerly. Butch was a graduate of Waynesboro High School Class of 1959. He attended George Williams College and went to work at General Electric as a Project Manager. Butch retired as a Plant Manager with Friction Inc. He was a member of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church in Beaverdam. Butch loved the outdoors. After his retirement, he spent much of his time in Texas where he enjoyed fishing and hunting exotic animals. Some of his most memorable hunts yielded bobcats, bears, deer, Blackbuck Antelope, rams, Addax Antelope, and the Scimitar Horned Oryx. Butch was proud to have completed the Grand Slam of the Rams. Many of his trophies are displayed in his home. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 33 years, Priscilla (Southerly) Berry; children, Lisa Smith (Walter), Joseph Smith (Marie); step-children, Kim Basial, Becky Potter, Adam Brooke (Christina); 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Bob Berry (Janet); niece, Karen Kazmarek (Brent); nephew, Robert Berry (Malaika); three great-nieces and great-nephews; as well as a host of friends. A celebration of Butch's life will be held at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mt. Olivet Baptist Church Benevolence Fund, 15583 Coatesville Road, Beaverdam, VA 23015.
