Kirby was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Peterson, and his sister, Wendy Pauline Smith. He is survived by his fiancé, Candace Rhodes and her daughter Riley Wortman, his father and stepmom, Johnny and Judy Smith of Leland, NC, his step brother and sister, Sherry and Jamie, His daughter Allison P. Smith and her brothers, Adam and Andrew Godwin. Also he leaves behind his two grandsons, Brayden Rudkin and Easton Rogers. Kirby also had several cousins, one of them Pete Smith, who was like a brother to Kirby. Kirby loved his family and was a wonderful dad to Allison and Grandaddy to his grandsons.
Kirby worked for United Parcel Services for 25 years, just recently retiring. He spent many weekends taking Brayden to his basketball games around North and South Carolina. He also attended many of Eastons games as much as possible. When he wasn’t enjoying watching his grandkids play ball, you could be assured he was on his boat on the Intracoastal Waterway, watching college basketball or NCIS, or at his dad’s place on the water.
Kirby loved the Carolina Tar Heels. He attended several ACC tournaments with his best friend, Roger Foxworth. Kirby had lots of friends throughout his life. He was a member of College Acres Baptist Church and also Anchor Baptist Church for many years and formed many life long friendships. He also had many friends through his career with UPS. Kirby will truly be missed by everyone and his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of his loved ones.
A visitation for Kirby will be held Saturday, May 11, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Coble Funeral & Cremation Service at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 1155 Shipyard Blvd, Wilmington, North Carolina 28412. Following the visitation will be a memorial service.
