The eldest daughter of Maria and Albert Singleton, June was the beloved wife of Hubert “Dodd” Gray for 62 years until his death on December 7, 2011.
She is survived by her sister Bernice Giles (widow of Melvin), and her sons Stanton (Cathy) and Karl. She was Aunty June to many nieces and nephews.
In her younger years, June was a professional dancer in New York, Boston and Montreal. Ballet was her speciality but she was versed in tap and broadway styles as well.
June and Dodd shared a love of sports. They were long-time members of the Montreal West Curling Club and Summerlea Golf Club. From tennis to cycling, skiing to skating, they held the belief that it was more fun to do things together than apart.
In recent years, June enjoyed events and trips with the Montreal West 50 Plus Club. In the summer she could be seen on Tuesday evenings at Davies Park for their cultural nights. As her heart condition weakened her, June took to driving her scooter through Montreal West and often to LaSalle. Nothing could hold her down!
June loved her friends and neighbours. Organized to the end, she left a list of thank-yous to those who meant so much to her and who had helped her to live independently as long as possible: Carole & Val, Cathy, Don & Susyn, Joe, Kevin & Marilyn, Sue & Arthur. There are no doubt many more who helped June over the past years. Please know she loved and appreciated every single one of you.
