George spent his youth in New York City, Littleton, CO and New Orleans. He always claimed New Orleans as where he grew up. His family moved to Conroe in the early 1970’s, settling in River Plantation. George made his home in River Plantation until his passing. In 1985, George married his wife, Julie. George worked for the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Dept. for 23 years. He initially worked in the jail to dispatch to patrol in then District 3 to D.A.R.E., narcotics, crime lab and finally ending his career as a Sergeant in the Training Academy. George and his canine partner, Marko, were the first canine unit in Montgomery County. George loved each and every minute of his career. George was also an inventor. He was the Founder of TacView, where he continued to support law enforcement. George also continued his service in his community by serving 2 terms on the River Plantation Community Improvement Association. He also loved playing softball and watching the Astros.
There were two philosophies in the Gilmer home as George was growing up. First, never open a box without reading the instructions first. Secondly, always be "Gentle, Generous, Truthful, Brave and Kind." George lived this to the end. George never met a soul that he did not see the good in. He even had people he arrested, thank him.
George is survived by his wife of 38 years, Julie, his dog, Snickers, his brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Kevin Gilmer, as well as many friends.
